The Principle of Yoga for Beginners

“Yoga is not about touching your toes, it is what you learn on the way down.” ~ Jigar Gor

If every yoga teacher had a dollar for every person who said they would like to try yoga, but they are not flexible… we would all be rich!! It really does not matter if you can touch your toes people…

What we do know is that breath and movement are some of the quickest ways into healing, and that’s why we are passionate about yoga for everyone, no matter your flexibility, or age, or any other perceived limitation!  Yoga can refer to asana (poses), pranayama (breath exercises), yoga nidra (guided meditation), bhakti (chanting and sound meditation) and much more.

“As much a yoga meets us where we are, yoga has the capacity to take us places we have not yet been and have not yet imagined.” ~ Christina Sell

The many principles of yoga, not just the poses, have immense value. We would like you to learn about the different breathing exercises, the immense benefit of learning to relax, mindfulness and meditation. Our goal is to introduce you to practices that will optimize your experience in a public yoga class, and ultimately help you feel better, maybe let go of some old habits and create new ones.

Yoga definitely can help us find ease in our physical body.  But there is sooo much more to yoga than the physicality. Learning to connect to the world within our bodies has so much power for positive transformation. Sure the outer influences the inner, however the inner influences the outer.

Yoga literally means to connect, and this also means to our energy body too.  This connection supports your everyday responses to the busy world we live in and can be strongly influenced by our inner practice.

Learn to breathe more deeply. Learn to move with your breath. Learn to listen to your body.  Learn how to use props to optimize your experience. Learn how to release tension. Learn how to direct your mind in more healing ways.  Learn how you engage matters… and, most importantly, we hope that you will learn that it’s always more fun together.

“Yoga does not just change the way we see things; it transforms the person who sees.” ~ BKS Iyengar

With love,

Denise
